Electrical Express UK Ltd was set up during 2006 to design, develop and produce/manufacture low energy, low cost and long life lighting products combined with monitoring facilities to reduce overall costs with minimum maintenance requirements coupled with high safety efficiency and reliability. This in turn has the knock on effect of reducing carbon emissions, reducing electricity cost, enhancing staff efficiency and allowing existing power cables to be used and for transmitting data.
History The founder of Electrical Express UK Ltd, Mr. Malcolm Ray, worked abroad for many years installing electronic data recorder and other electronic system’s aboard cruise ships, cargo vessels and ferries. Whilst in China he became aware of the development in low energy lighting systems and when visiting shipping ports that clearly had a variety of controlled but outdated signage, it occurred to him that if he could design a lighting system that used a much reduced energy source then this would open up a huge market. Mr. Malcolm Ray travelled to South Africa in 2004 to meet with his brother, a computer software specialist, and discuss the possibilities of them designing and building a prototype of a revolutionary computer controlled, low energy lighting system. During 2005 a mini laboratory was set up in order to perform a feasibility study of the system called LESS [Low Energy Signage System] where the electronics and control systems were designed by Malcolm Ray and the software written by his brother in South Africa. Later in 2005 Mr. Ray travelled to Hong Kong in order to determine the supply market price and evaluate available components. Early prototypes were extremely successful, using approximately 8% of the energy when compared to conventional lighting and signage systems. At this time Mr. Ray made contact with a local company that was involved with London Underground Sign Manufacture. Subsequently separate negotiations commenced with Metronet Ltd [the company responsible for the maintenance of the London Underground system] with a view to providing a computer controlled Low Energy signage system for the whole Underground network. July/August 2006 Electrical Express UK Ltd was formed for this project. The technology developed for the London underground system has been integrated into the design of new lighting products. |
